Quarks are never found alone

In brief

Quarks explain the proton and the neutron. Yet no one has ever seen a quark by itself. If quarks are real, why has nobody knocked one out of a proton and looked at it?

Physicists have tried, with the hardest collisions their machines can produce. However hard a proton is hit, a lone quark never comes out.

No experiment has ever observed a free quark. Quarks exist only bound inside composite particles.

Every quark ever detected was bound inside a composite particle.

An experiment searches for years for a quark traveling on its own. What has every search of this kind found?

No experiment has ever observed a free quark.

It finds none. Quarks exist only bound inside composite particles.
