Find the force or the speed from the power

A car cruises at a steady 30 m/s on a level road while its engine delivers 60 kW.

How large is the driving force?

Start with the numbers: P = 60 kW, which is 60000 W, and v = 30 m/s.

60000 ÷ 30 = 2000. The driving force is 2000 N.

The car, workedsteplinevaluesP = 60000 W, v = 30 m/s, F = ?arrangementF = P/vsubstituteF = 60000 ÷ 30resultF = 2000 N
The car's cruise: F = P/v.

That move is P = Fv solved for the force: F = P/v.

P = Fv rearranges for either unknown.

To find the force: F = P/v.

To find the speed: v = P/F.

Pick the arrangement whose unknown stands alone, substitute, and calculate: force in newtons, speed in meters per second, and power in watts before you start.

A power given in kilowatts converts first: multiply by 1000 to get watts.

Read the question for its unknown; pick the arrangement where it stands alone.

A car's engine delivers 60 kW at a steady 30 m/s. Calculate the driving force.

Write down the values in the question:

P = 60 kW = 60000 W, v = 30 m/s; F = ?

Write down the arrangement whose unknown stands alone:

F = P/v

Substitute in the values, and calculate:

F = 60000 ÷ 30 = 2000

The driving force is 2000 N.

A cargo drone's rotors deliver 3000 W of driving power at a steady 12 m/s. Enter the constant driving force, in N.

A winch rated 1400 W reels a line in with a constant 200 N force, parallel to the motion. Calculate the line's steady speed.

Write down the values in the question:

P = 1400 W, F = 200 N; v = ?

Write down the arrangement whose unknown stands alone:

v = P/F

Substitute in the values, and calculate:

v = 1400 ÷ 200 = 7

The line moves at a steady 7 m/s.

A tow truck's winch delivers 5600 W through a cable that applies a constant 700 N force, parallel to the motion. Enter the cable's steady speed, in m/s.

An electric van's motor delivers 10800 W at a steady 24 m/s. Enter the driving force, in N.

A harvester's engine delivers 9000 W of driving power while the driving force holds at a constant 600 N. Enter the harvester's steady speed, in m/s.

A motorboat's propeller delivers 52000 W as the boat holds a steady 20 m/s. Enter the driving force, in N.

An airport baggage tug delivers 3150 W while its drive wheels apply a constant 350 N force. Enter the tug's steady speed, in m/s.
