Dividing a velocity change in m/s by a time in s gives which unit?
The unit m/s² came out of the acceleration equation you've already seen. Read as a sentence, it says exactly what the acceleration is doing.
An acceleration of 3 m/s² changes the velocity by 3 m/s during each second of that acceleration.
Read the table row by row. The velocity starts at 5 m/s, not at zero. One second on, it reads 8 m/s. Every row is 3 m/s more than the row before.
The ² squares nothing in the value. One 'per second' is part of velocity's own unit, m/s. Dividing by the time adds the second one.
A car's acceleration is 4 m/s². By how much, in m/s, does the car's velocity change during each second of this acceleration?
An SUV has an acceleration of 6 m/s². Read the unit as 'meters per second, per second'. The SUV's velocity changes by 6 m/s during each second of the acceleration.
One machine has an acceleration of 2 m/s²; another has 5 m/s². The 5 m/s² machine's velocity changes faster: it changes by 5 m/s during each second, against 2 m/s for the other machine.
What does an acceleration of 8 m/s² mean?
A go-kart's velocity changes by 5 m/s during each second. What is the go-kart's acceleration?
Conveyor P has an acceleration of 4 m/s²; cart Q has an acceleration of 7 m/s². Which statement is correct?
An engineer records a rocket sled's acceleration as 12 m/s². Which reading of that value is correct?
A drone accelerates at 9 m/s² in the direction it is already moving. At the start of one particular second its velocity is 21 m/s. What is its velocity, in m/s, at the end of that second?
